CASHIERS, NC- High Hampton Inn's 2008 golf season, set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, tees off with the 17th annual Spring Senior Golf Tournament May 18-23, 2008. Men, women and couples 50 years young and older will vie for awards, prizes, and the thrill of competition during the four-day event. Tournaments will take place in three different age brackets: the Senior for ages 50-64, the Super Senior I for ages 65-74, and the Super Senior II for ages 75 or older. Prizes are awarded in each age bracket for both men and women.
Participants will arrive on Sunday, May 18 and may get tips from resident PGA pro Chris David or get warmed up by hitting practice shots at the large, manicured driving range. Tournament play begins on Monday, May 19 with players competing in a Medalist tournament, a Scramble tournament, a Stableford tournament, and a Medal Play Championship. Play concludes Friday, May 23 with a "shoot-out" to the island 8th green, the hole which Golf Digest named "One of America's Great Golf Holes." Participants can win a $1,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one during this "shoot-out." Cocktail parties and banquets are scheduled throughout the tournament to allow guests to bond with one another.
The competition isn't the only thing that will delight tournament players as the golf course at High Hampton Inn is as stunning as it is engaging. It was designed by renowned golf architect George W. Cobb, A.S.G.C.A., who has developed more than 350 courses but acknowledges the course at High Hampton Inn as one of his greater accomplishments. "I have yet to see a course - designed by me or by others - with greater natural beauty or one more enjoyable to play," said Cobb. The course's bent-grass greens give golfers the highest quality turf, while tall pines and pastel mountain laurels, Hampton Lake and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains provide memorable scenic views.
The week is not only for tournament participants. Non-golfing spouses can take advantage of the countless amenities High Hampton Inn offers. From tennis and hiking to yoga and full service spa treatments, everyone can have both a relaxing and exciting adventure. The Spring Wildflower Workshop will also take place from May 18-20, 2008 for all guests interested in indigenous spring blooms that cover the Blue Ridge Mountains.
